Over the past few weeks, I have been going to the gym quite a lot. Back in Hong Kong, the only gym I had access to was a 15 minute drive (or bus ride) from my home, and sometimes it was very irritating for me to travel the distance just to use the gym, so sometimes I lacked the motivation to visit the gym on a regular basis. But when I moved here to Sydney, I was most pleased to find that in practically every set of apartments here, there are sports and recreation facilities. The set of apartments I currently reside in are no different, so I was prepared to use the gym.

One of the pieces of equipment I use most frequently in the gym is the treadmill, and I have already reviewed the treadmill I used in Hong Kong (the link to my review is http://www.epinions.com/content_69934222980), so I have decided to review the treadmill I use here in Sydney, which is the LifeFitness LifeStride 9100 HR Treadmill.

This treadmill is an older model of the treadmill I used in Hong Kong, and because it is an older model, it is not as good a machine as the other model is.

However, let me start off by saying that this treadmill is effective and it works. You enter the type of workout you want to have (choice between Manual, Cardiovascular and Fat Burn), enter your weight, time (from 1 minute to up to an hour), speed and incline and you start off the workout. The speed, time and incline can be adjusted throughout your workout, and this is most useful if you start to feel tired and want to slow down or if you want to speed up and perhaps, add an incline to make things more challenging. If you do, however, experience any sort of pain or dizziness when running on the machine, you can always press the emergency stop button at the front of the treadmill or clip the emergency stop cord to your shirt and pull it when you experience the pain. From here, I can say that this machine is effective, because it works consistently without fault.

Also, the cooldowns on this machine are very effective, since these vary depending on the amount of time you have spent on the treadmill. I particularly like the longer cooldowns for the longer runs on the treadmill, because it gives me a lot of time to cool down before I can begin to use other equipment in the gym. By the time the cooldown finishes, your muscles are not in as much pain as it would be with a short cooldown that is set for every workout (short cooldowns can sometimes cause cramps in the legs). Therefore, this is another good thing to say about this machine.

However, I have to say that this machine is not as user-friendly as its newer model (again, if you are not familiar with the newer model, find the link I posted earlier and read the review I wrote on it). Because there is no keypad on the machine, everything has to be adjusted by arrows and having to always set the speed from 0 at the beginning of the workout can be irritating, since you have to press the arrows to a speed to your liking every time you begin a workout (you have to do this with the time, weight and incline as well, which makes it all the more irritating).

But even more irritating is the fact that the machine has no sensors. There is a digit space on the screen for your heartbeat, but it is funny that you have no sensors to measure your heartbeat. I am used to using the heart sensors at the end of a workout to see how fast my heart is beating, but because there are no sensors I cannot do that.

Despite its flaws, this treadmill does work just as good as any other treadmill, despite the fact this machine is not as top-notch as other treadmills on the market today. But if you are looking for a decent treadmill to use, this one is good. But, like I have said time and time again about treadmills: they are dangerous. So be careful!

Thanks for reading the review.
