The Ideal Elliptical: Precor EFX 5.23 or Life Fitness X9i?
I have searched for the perfect elliptical trainer for about 3 months. I sampled machines from Sears, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, Fitness Resource and Leisure Fitness. I also researched and evaluated many websites related to elliptical trainers. I would like to share some of my findings in the hope that it might make someone else’s search easier.
My Goal: The Landice treadmill that I have used over the past 2 years began to take a toll on my ankles and I decided that I wanted to get an elliptical trainer that would provide a low impact cardiovascular workout.

I did my homework before I bought this machine. I chose this model because it’s a top notch quality piece of kick-butt equipment, and as far as I’m concerned, you get what you pay for here. I have owned a Precor treadmill for 10 years with not one ounce of a problem.
Precor holds the patent on the adjustable incline. You can’t get adjustable incline if you get moving arms. If the arms move then the incline does not. Don’t fall for the machines with the moving arms…you get a much better workout on a machine with stationary arms where the incline is adjustable. It is much more versatile then a machine with moving arms, and you can isolate certain areas that you can’t isolate with a machine that does not have this incline adjustment feature. You can let go of the bars and still get somewhat of an upper body workout by moving your arms. This machine is quiet. There’s something about working out on a quiet machine that I love. The operation of this machine is smooth like butter. The highest incline will more than likely give you the fanny you’ve always longed for very quickly. You can take it easier or you can really pump it up. Granny could probably use it with no problem. There are many programs from which to choose and I love to switch around to keep from getting bored. After thirty minutes on this machine, my husband and I (in our 50s’) are drenched. We have only had it a few months and couldn’t be more happy with it and how our bodys are beginning to shape up. Thirty minutes on this machine in my opinion is better than 1 hour on the treadmill.
I would recommend this machine to anyone who really wants to take their health seriously and is fortunate to have the money to purchase one.
OK, so you’ve finally realized that the extra stuff clinging onto your belt is not a family of possums, or maybe your sweetums mentioned that you either get fit or take the dust gathering trapeze out of the bedroom. You know that the 12 pills for $29.95 didn’t work and that it all comes down to diet, aerobic exercise, and strength conditioning. The 7.9T will address the aerobic part of the equation at an excellent price for the value.
I have been doing various kinds of workouts for the last 15 years. Step classes, kick boxing, treadmill, stepper, and weights. When my Gym first got the Precor, I couldn’t wait to try it. I instantly fell in love with it…and so did everyone else. There soon were people running to get on it as soon as someone got off.
We moved farther away from my gym and I got tired of video tapes. I had purchased an elliptical from sears, knowing that there was no comparison, but I tried to be happy with it. Finally gave it away and spent the money and bought what I really wanted.
I wore out a few stair machines and never really stuck with rowing or cycling, so I thought I would try an elliptical trainer. So far, it’s pretty much what I expected based on the input from friends who have used ellipticals. The Precor EFX 5.23 is sturdy, stable and quiet, which is very important to me. It features program adjustable ramp angle and resistance, which allows tailoring the workout to what sort of shape I’m in and my fitness goal of the moment. The control panel has a water bottle holder and can function as a reading rack. The included “Polar” brand heart monitor chest strap works well and the EFX 5.23 can use this input to control the resistance if you want to work at a particular heart rate.

Having been a member of several gyms, I have had the opportunity to try several varieties of elliptical trainers. When my wife and I decided to move to a home gym, we had a lot of choices to make regarding which machine to buy; more than we really were expecting. After a lot of careful consideration, we choose to go with the Precor EFX 5.23. It represents the best blend of functionality, durability, and comfort.

If you are searching for an elliptical exercise machine, Precor is without parallel. This machine provides a great aerobic workout, as do many other elliptical machines, but with the Crossramp you also add the ability to build lower body strength. This machine is well-suited for any age or fitness level. The pre-programmed routines are great to start, but the two customizable programs are essential.
