If you are searching for an elliptical exercise machine, Precor is without parallel. This machine provides a great aerobic workout, as do many other elliptical machines, but with the Crossramp you also add the ability to build lower body strength. This machine is well-suited for any age or fitness level. The pre-programmed routines are great to start, but the two customizable programs are essential.
I have owned treadmills, stair steppers, x-country ski machines, and even other ellipticals. I researched my purchase for months. I stay in hotels weekly, so I have used every major commercial brand elliptical. In my opinion, the only other brand worth considering is Life Fitness. StarTrac is too flat (no incline). SportsArt has the pedals too far apart (very awkward leg position). Octane is too much like a stair-stepper (motion is too vertical). The motion of the Life Fitness ellipticals is very natural and the quality seems very good, but it lacks the Crossramp which lets you vary the muscles targeted in your workout.
Price was a major obstacle to overcome. I first focused on models under $1500. I tried Reebok, Schwinn, ProForm, etc., at multiple stores. Every model either had an awkward motion or felt like it would break any minute (I am a big guy). So I started to research models costing $2500 and up. I was convinced I could find good prices on the internet, but that is not the case. The manufacturers have done a good job controlling distribution of these models. I found a few good deals on EBay, but shipping costs and a lack of warranty negated any savings over retail. So I took the plunge and bought the 5.23. And it was a great decision!

Had a breakdown, of course just after the 12 month full warranty period. I called the Precor dealer and they covered it fully, even though it was technically out of labor warranty. Still a great machine!
